Cryptocurrencies are an emerging, unregulated, digital asset that many people are looking to as a new form of money. Blockchain is the technology that supports cryptocurrencies, the “rails” they run on. The world of blockchain and crypto has its own jargon, a growing technology infrastructure, and even some political philosophy behind it.
There can be roles for technical writers in this world. The companies behind the different cryptocurrencies need to train their employees. The technological tools need to be explained to the software developers and others who will use them. Banks and other financial institutions that are exploring the use of cryptocurrencies need help in implementing them. Individuals using or investing the currencies need to understand them.
Kim Nicol will explain the concepts and technology behind blockchain and crypto, introduce you to the history and technical terms used in the field, and talk about the niches that technical writers can find and fill in this field that intersects finance and technology, and that will continue to grow in the next several years.

Kim Nicol is an Executive Coach with a specialty in public speaking and mindfulness. She’s worked with leaders at Coinbase, Facebook, LinkedIn, Dropbox, and more. Kim is the author of The Beginner’s Glossary for the Emerging Blockchain Landscape, and was invited to give the closing talk at the 2017 ICO Funding Summit in Palo Alto. (“ICO” for “initial coin offering.”)
