STC Berkeley Chapter Board Meeting October 10, 2005 minutes by Ben Lukas, Treasurer Joe, Jim, Ben, Richard, Jessica at Richard's house Meeting called to session at 6:35. Ben Lukas to take minutes because Eunice is absent. Meeting minutes approved as submitted for Sept board meeting. Robohelp class now has 9-10 signups. - Ben to send email with names as checks are deposited. Ben has the checks that Joe has picked up at the post office. - Has Eunice signed up/paid? Technical Communications Competition - Now have about 18 entries, about $2100 in revenue - Teams of judges have recieved most of the entries and can begin judging process Our meeting place at the Shattuck Hotel is likely to not be available starting Jan 2006. - The hotel is being sold; rumors tell that the hotel will close for about 6 months for renovation around Jan 1. - Board members need to start looking into alternative sites starting with Feb meeting Distinguished Chapter Service Award - David Alt has been nominated - Jessica to research and fill in paperwork, Joe to review and finalize - Joe says deadline to send to STC Central is in 2 weeks, so this needs to be done soon Berkeley Chapter Tina Silverstein would like to start a local SIG on Instructional Design - Joe has asked her to submit a proposal - Joe will research rules from STC Central, and review SIG structure/procedures at Silicon Valley Chapter - Joe will ask Tina to volunteer to chair the SIG if established Discussion on recruiting student members from UC Berkeley - It is our understanding that the teachers there do promote STC - Jessica and Joe to follow up by contacting teachers they know to find way to promote our chapter - Jim to work on "Chapter Volunteer Brochure" this month; he may include a section directed toward Cal students. - STC Berkeley can offer students networking opportunities, resume building activities, job referral services January 2006 meeting will be a party at the Highlands country club. Jean Lundquist (STC Berkelely member) works there, has gotten us a rate of $150 plus $4 per person. - Decision made to find a party oganizer for the event. Richard to contact Melody Burris to see if she could do this. - We will also need volunteers for setup and cleanup labor. - There is a CD player, microphone, speakers in the room. Jim volunteered to organize CD music. - Joe to send email blast this week to announce the party to our chapter email list. - Discussion to find good door prizes, such as eletronic gadgets or software. Board members to smooze for these. - Volunteer recognition will be the "event" part of the party Recharting document discussion - Richard and Jim have worked out final issues - Board voted approval of the document - Jim to email to Joe a copy, as Joe has had to move to a new computer - Joe to send copy to STC Central Discussion to move much of documents on chapter intranet to publicly accessable side of the website - Each chapter officer to suggest documents to move and give proposal to Joe. Joe and officer can decide, then contact Jim for action - Consensus to keep 6 to 12 months of reports on public site, then purge them. Jessica has contact list developed for STC Norcal chapter officers. Joe suggested she build a contact list for contacts outside STC, which she said she has as well.
