STC NorCal Leadership Days: An Opportunity for STC Leaders

The joint, six-chapter STC NorCal Leadership Days conference offers an opportunity for STC members who are active in leadership roles in their chapters. Viki Maki, Berkeley Chapter senior member and past president, is currently the conference director.

This series of three, one-day conferences at Mills College in Oakland is open exclusively to the chapter leadership. The theme of the first conference, held last December 7th, was Sharing Successes and Confronting Challenges. Karen Hill of the Berkeley Chapter was the director for the first conference, which explored the following topics:

• How to Reduce Volunteer Burnout
• Making STC Value-added: Recruiting and Motivating Members
• Technical Writer Skills and Alternative Jobs
• The Business of Newsletters
• Mentoring
• Collaborating on Programs in Northern California

The title for the second day, to be held April 12th, is Designing the new UI of Tech Comm. Three topics will be presented:

• Employer Relationships and Working Effectively with HR
• Dealing with the Changing Market for Technical Documentation
• Making the Business Case for Technical Documentation Before, During, and After the Interview

The third day will focus on the incoming officers and other chapter leaders and will be held after the six chapters have their elections

NorCal Leadership Days is an internal conference sponsored by the six NorCal STC chapters and is not open to the public. If you are active in a leadership role in your STC chapter and wish to attend, you should contact your chapter president.
