ViewletBuilder: Becoming an Effective Builder of Viewlets

ViewletBuilder can be used to create compelling animated online presentations called Viewlets. Viewlets make great marketing demos, training materials, software simulations, support resources, and help content. Even though ViewletBuilder is easy to use, it can be tricky to produce Viewlets that flow smoothly. Dlugy-Hegwer will demonstrate how to capture, edit, compile, and publish Viewlets. The demonstration will include tips and techniques to help you go beyond the obvious to become an effective Viewlet designer.

Rolfe is Senior Technical Writer at Symmetricom's Santa Rosa division. He is an active player in the open source movement and Co-Vice President of the North Bay Chapter of the STC, where he has arranged presentations by speakers such as Tim O'Reilly, founder of the O'Reilly Associates book publishing company. Dlugy-Hegwer is a member of the STC's usability SIG and has given presentations on using tools such as ViewletBuilder and SnagIt to improve technical communication for users.

STC-Berkeley Chapter Meeting Details
Vo's Restaurant in downtown Oakland, is within easy walking distance to BART, is wheelchair accessible, and has both street and nearby garage parking.

Networking and conversation start at 6:00 p.m., and dinner at 6:30 p.m. If you want to eat dinner, reservations are required and must be received no later than 12:00 noon the Monday before the meeting. Reservations are necessary so that we can order the right amount of food. Do not contact the restaurant.

The meeting fee with dinner is $18 for members, $15 for student members, and $21 for nonmembers. If you come for the program only, starting at 7:30 p.m., the fee is $12 for members and nonmembers, and $10 for students. If you are not eating, payments may be made at the door.
